The education system:
A key feature of the education system in Zanzibar is that after the Zanzibar Education Act, 1982, providing basic education to secondary education is compulsory and free. Basic education has changed over the years. Until the revolution of 1964 (primary) was eight years old. Between 1968 and 1976 the number more than ten years. More than 40 percent of students in secondary schools selected to continue for two years on the second cycle of secondary education at the end of the session on the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) is completed. Early Childhood Education
Preschool education be taught in public schools, private, and the Qur’an, and is not required. Access and participation is still low, and in 2000 was about 13 percent of the group 4-6 years.
Primary education
Basic education in Zanzibar consists of seven primary and three years of secondary education. The first year of junior high school known as the “alignment of high school classes” (OSC). High school
There are three cycles of secondary education. First cycle, “the cycle of secondary education” is a cycle of three years and is part of basic training. Second cycle, the so-called “secondary” lasted for two years and includes forms III and IV form. At the end of Form IV, the students took the entrance examination qualifying for entry into the third round. This cycle consists of two forms of the V and VI, and is called “advanced”.
Educational Management and Administration
In 2000 there were 207 schools and 118 private schools. All public schools are managed and administered by the Department of Education.
